Emmanuel Vivier: “Every White Collar Job” Will Be Impacted By AI

Brands like LVMH and Carrefour have been pioneers in the use of generative AI. During Wednesday’s Nexus2050 event, co-founder and principal analyst of the think tank, HUB Institute, Emmanuel Vivier shared his thoughts on GenAI and provided a wide range of case studies.

Just over a year ago, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said, “The iPhone moment of AI has started,” calling ChatGPT “the AI heard around the world.”

As Emmanuel Vivier pointed out during his speaking engagement at Nexus2050 on Wednesday, it took ChatGPT just five days from its launch to gain 1m users. Compare this to Facebook (10 months), for example, or AOL (two years).

Rapid evolution

Generative AI has indeed launched thousands of startups in a matter of months, including in Luxembourg. Vivier specificially cited LetzAI as “one of the top five or six platforms that has a quality of rendering” and sees a lot of potential in this Luxembourg-based startup.

The rapid evolution of GenAI more broadly was particularly evident when Vivier showed an example of text-to-image technology, where six versions of a simple prompt to Midjourney over the course of under two years yielded vastly different results.

But it’s not just design that will be impacted. “Every white collar job is going to be affected in one way or another by generative AI,” from legal to HR, sales, comms and more, Vivier explained.

One statistic he shared is that 68% of French using generative AI in their workplace don’t tell their managers. “The truth is probably a big part of your employees, your colleagues, are already using generative AI,” Vivier added. “The only issue is if they’re using the public version, there’s no confidentiality.”

Case studies

Among the HUB Institute’s clients are LVMH, L’Oréal, Clarins and Carrefour

LVMH, like others in the fashion space, have placed their own bets on generative AI, using tools such as FancyTech, a platform which describes itself as one that “effortlessly turns product images into captivating, viral videos, taking your visuals from flat to fancy.” It means traditional photoshoots are no longer necessary.

Carrefour has also been cited as a pioneer in the use of GenAI, be that through its intelligent assistant, Hopla, which can help make personal recommendations, to its improvement of internal processes, product sheets, procurement and more.
